When we first heard about Pelotonia, it didn't take long for Flowerama Columbus to get involved and we've been actively involved with donations for Pelotonia since 2012. Pelotonia was founded in 2008 with the objective to fund cancer research. Peletonia's operating expenses are covered by funding partners so that 100% of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to fund cancer research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. Cancer is something that has likely affected each one of us in one way or another, whether we've personally experienced it, a family member, a friend or even co-worker. This fact alone made it easy for us to want to get involved and support this cause. Each year an amazing group of people who have likely been affected by cancer in one way or another come together to volunteer their time, donate money and participate in the ride in hopes that one day we can find a cure and end cancer for once and for all.
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) conducts scientific research that translates to leading=edge cancer diagnostics, treatments and prevention strategies as part of their contribution to the global war on cancer. The OSUCCC is made up of more than 300 researchers and subspecialized oncologists that are speeding the discover and delivery of molecular and genetic-based therapies for individual cancers leading to more options and less side affects. After 10 years of planning, The OSUCCC opened a new 21-story, 1.1-million-square-foot, 306 bed cancer hospital that brings researchers and clinicians into closer working proximity to ensure that patients receive quicker access to innovative science-based treatments that target their individual cancer. This transformational facility stands as a model for all 21st century cancer hospitals by bringing personalized care, research and education.
